Blogs- why you need to make the time

by techtalk on December 31, 2008

Mompreneurs are busy people- keeping up with inventory, making contacts, keeping up with the kids, carpooling etc… so who has time to blog. Well there are several reasons why. If you own a mom business especially one with a website, you need to blog. If you are not sure where to start, find some good blogs to follow and read. Blogs are good to attract people to your site and to attract spiders. Blogs are full of words/content. Spiders which crawl the web looking for content like words. Therefore blogs make sense and are an easy free, fun way to increase your search engine optimization and create a community with your customers. The purpose of a blog is to educate and engage. Engage your customers with topics that are relevant to your business.
If you have employees, blogs allow you the capability of adding authors, therefore you can create a business wide blog which employees contribute a variety of content. Before you set your employees loose, make sure you set blogging guidelines.
Keep in mind, blogs are not the place for sales pitches, blog are meant to build relations. Blog about events your business has participated in, charities your business supports, brainstorm and you will be surprised with the content you can use to fill the blog. A good rule is to try to post 3 times a week. This will help to keep the content fresh and your followers coming back for more.
Blogs are pretty simple to set up, they just take some time. I use Google Blogger for this blog. The free program is very intuitive and has several capabilities. Blogging programs allow you the freedom to play and create a blog that expresses your business.

Blog is such a funny word! The more I am on the internet, the more blogs I encounter and definitely agree with you – they are very important!
