Building an on-line Community

by techtalk on May 13, 2009

If you would like to use Social Media for your business, it is important to keep in mind that when you use social media, you need to use it to build a community for your customers. Social Media is not meant for SPAM. A company which really uses Social Media wisely is Gaiam. Gaiam is a Colorado based company which reaches their customers through their online community, Gaiam Life, their blog, Stream of Consciousness, and through their Facebook and Twitter profiles. Gaiam engages, educates and entertains their customers, which makes for great Social Media. I really advice you watch Gaiam. Fan their facebook, follow them on Twitter and read their blog. In my eyes they are the leaders on how Social Media should be used.

There are also free community-building widgets you can get from TheBlogFrog that are specifically meant for bloggers who want an easy way to add a community to their site and enable reader interaction. The widgets 1) let readers see who is visiting your blog 2) show what your readers are blogging about themselves, and 3) enable discussions among readers. All of these things drive traffic, build loyalty and help with search engine optimization! Check it out at http://www.theblogfrog.com.

I meant to point out YOUR BlogFrog community widget over there on the left. See that? Cool!
