What are Canonical Issues and How to Fix

by techtalk on November 1, 2009

If you have a website make sure you check your domain names, you may have 2 domain names pointing to your website. This is called a canonical issue. If  you do a search on your website topic and www.yoursite.com appears or  yourwebsite.com appears(notice there is no www in front of the 2nd website ), the SEO of your site may be affected.

The way to fix this problem is to do a 301 redirect in the files of your website. I just had to do this for a website I help maintain. Here are some great directions on how to do a 301 redirect, I actually used these directions and it worked!
